Somaliland elections deemed 'free, fair and credible'

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

The parliamentary elections in the self-declared republic of Somaliland were seen not only as a test for the ruling party but also as a way to gain recognition for the country's independence. Among those observing the elections in Somaliland was Zitto Kabwe, leader of the Alliance for Change and Transparency party (ACT–Wazalendo) in Tanzania. He says that the elections just held show that the breakaway republic is able to conduct elections in a free, fair, and credible way.
