Kenneth Kaunda, affectionately known as KK, was one of the pioneers of Africa鈥檚 struggle for independence and became Zambia's first president in 1964. He died last Thursday, 17 June, at the age of 97. In 1990, a year before he stood down from office, he gave an exclusive interview to Focus on Africa's Veronique Edwards. He spoke to Veronique about the economic stagnation that the country was facing and the shift from a one-party political system to a multi-party democracy. He also revealed that he always carried several of his trademark white handkerchiefs in his pocket. Photo: Zambia's President Kenneth Kaunda with 麻豆社 Africa's Veronique Edwards in 1990. Credit: 麻豆社.
