The World Health Organization has used this year's Day of The African Child to campaign against the global inequity in the distribution of cervical cancer vaccines. According to the global public health organisation, around 90% of the world's supply of HPV or Human Papillomavirus vaccines is directed to countries with only 10% of the global burden of cervical cancer, and the unfairness in some African countries is especially acute. As a result, many girls in Africa will go on develop the disease, even though the cancer is preventable. Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu from the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in Nigeria is part of the WHO Task force campaigning for an end to the disparity between countries and for a fairer distribution of vaccines, and she's been speaking to Focus on Africa's Esau Williams.
