Racism and English football

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

More about the racist abuse directed at the three England team members who lost their penalties in yesterday's Euro 2020 final. The  three black players are Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. Saka, who plays for Arsenal, is only 19 and took the final penalty. Social media blew up with racist insults and attacks immediately after. The abuse has been condemned by England's Football Association, the police, and the organisation 'Show Racism the Red Card'.  The English squad have still been taking the knee before matches to promote equality and speak out against racism. Focus on Africa's Bola Mosuro has been speaking with Dr. Kelechi Anyikude, an ardent Arsenal fan and footbal pundit.
