China floods: passengers rescued from flooded subway

Newsday

Available for over a year

Torrential rain has caused severe flooding in parts of central China. Video footage shows trapped passengers on inundated subway trains in the city of Zhengzhou, and bodies and cars floating down roads. Stephen McDonell is the 麻豆社鈥檚 China correspondent. He told Newsday: 鈥淧eople have been shocked by the images on social media, of commuters stuck in underground train carriages, the water rising up to their chests, then having to stand up on the chairs to get above the water. Most of those passengers were rescued by teams apparently cutting through the roofs of those carriages. There has also been quite shocking imagery of dead bodies on the platforms of train stations.鈥 Photo: In Zhengzhou, video footage showed passengers in flooded subway carriages with water reaching their shoulders
