Newshour

Available for over a year

The Taliban have sought to reassure the rest of the world that Afghanistan will not be used as a base for foreign fighters to spread terrorism. Addressing his first news conference in Kabul, the Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, also insisted women would be able to work, study and be actively involved in society, as long as they complied with Sharia law. Mahbouba Seraj is the founder of the Afghan Women鈥檚 Network. She told Newshour a lot of questions remained unanswered over the Taliban's policies on women's rights.
