Covid-19: Pfizer and AZ vaccine effective against Delta - study

Newshour

Available for over a year

A recent survey in the UK has found that obtaining two vaccine doses of either the Pfizer or the AstraZeneca vaccine remains the most effective way to ensure protection against the Covid-19 Delta variant, though they are not quite as effective as they were against the Alpha vaccine. The study has also found that although two doses of Pfizer have greater initial effectiveness against new infections, this declines faster compared with two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The study of more than 350,000 people between 18 and 64 was carried out by Oxford University and the Office for National Statistics in the UK. Professor Sarah Walker, Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidimiology at Oxford University, led the research and explains the findings. These include conclusions on whether the length between vaccines makes any difference and if the effectiveness of the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines decline over time.
