'There are hundreds of APRC and NPP party supporters joining together'

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

It was dubbed an unholy alliance when last month it was announced that the party of Gambia's President Adama Barrow was joining forces with exiled former President Yahya Jammeh and his Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party. It was criticised by those who saw the actions of President Barrow's National People's Party (NPP) as an act of betrayal. Others said it was merely to win support ahead of the December Presidential elections. But over the weekend the man who ruled Gambia with an iron fist for 22 years reached out to his supporters announcing his return to national politics though his party. The former President, who is wanted for human rights abuses in Gambia was clear his return to the political fold ahead of the December elections would be without the NPP. Well this apparent U-turn by Jammeh must be like a slap in the face for President Barrow's NPP party surely? A question Bola Mosuro put to the party's Deputy Spokesperson, Seedy Njie.
