Major agreements on day 3 of COP26, but how will they impact Africa?

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

At the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow, some major agreements have been announced. But how will they impact the continent which bears the brunt of climate change and global warming? Earlier, forty countries agreed to cut emissions of methane - one of the major factors accelerating global warming. South Africa has entered a deal whereby it will receive $8.5billion dollars by the EU and some G7 countries to transition from its coal-dependent energy sector. One deal that impacts a larger part of the continent involves deforestation. 100 countries have agreed to the pledge for $19billion dollars to be set aside to end deforestation by 2030 around the world. Rainforests play a key role in absorbing the Earth’s carbon emissions, as it is C02 that drives the climate crisis. Well someone who isn't too impressed with the deal is Irène Wabiwa Betoko, head of the Greenpeace Africa Campaign for the Congo Basin Forest, and she's been speaking to Focus on Africa's Bola Mosuro.
