Angola marked the 46th anniversary of independence from Portugal on 11 November. But the occasion was not cause for celebration for everyone in the country, with many Angolans taking to the streets in the capital, Luanda, to protest against the government, corruption and police brutality. Demonstrations against President Jo茫o Louren莽o and his MPLA party, which has ruled the country since independence, were also held by several Angolan diaspora communities, including in London, where many people gathered outside the UK parliament to call for justice and an end to corruption in their home country, and for the British to stop supporting the government there.
