Since fighting began in northern Ethiopia 15 months ago, all sides have been accused of serious abuses - Ethiopian government forces, their Eritrean allies, and the rebel fighters of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). A new report from Amnesty International has given details of allegations that could amount to what it calls "serious violations of humanitarian law" by the TPLF. It says rebel forces killed unarmed civilians in the town of Kobo, and sexually assaulted at least 30 women and girls in Chena village, some as young as 14. The 麻豆社's Kalkidan Yibeltal, reporting from Addis Ababa, says Amnesty's latest investigation accuses fighters of the TPLF of gang rape and the deliberate killing of civilians. The TPLF has not responded to the latest allegations. Photo: A ransacked classroom in the Amhara region, Ethiopia, that was invaded by the TPLF in July 2021. Credit: Getty Images
