Sudan protests: The women at the forefront of pro-democracy action
Focus on AfricaAvailable for over a year
In 2019 Sudan's women played a big role during the mass protest movement. They were out on the streets of the capital Khartoum and in many other cities across the country, leading the protests that toppled one of Africa's longest ruling dictators, Omar al-Bashir. Three years on, Sudan is witnessing large pro-democracy protests against the military leaders who derailed a civilian-military power sharing deal that replaced al-Bashir's rule. Women are back at the forefront of the demonstrations but some are paying a heavy price. Reporter: Â鶹Éç’s Mohanad Hashim. Photo: A Sudanese woman speaks during at a protest rally.
