"My goal is to remain in Ukraine."

Weekend

Available for over a year

One of Ukraine's greatest voices, Andrei Kurkov, the writer of books such as Death and the Penguin, and the case of the General's Thumb, has vowed to remain in Ukraine and help protect his country's independence. He also says becoming an emigrant will kill his creative life. He was briefly in London, but he has since returned home. Before he left though, he spoke to Weekend's Julian Worricker about the long and troubled history of Ukraine and Russia, and how it resonates with the present time.
