Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe on way home to UK

Newshour

Available for over a year

British-Iranian nationals Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori are on a plane leaving Iran after being freed, the UK government has said. Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe had been held since 2016 - accused of plotting to overthrow Iran's government, which she denied. She'd been under house arrest and was given her UK passport back this week. Her detention had been linked to Britain's non-payment of half a billion dollars for an order for tanks, cancelled in the 1970s.聽 That reportedly, has now been settled.聽British-Iranian Anoosheh Ashoori, had been held on spying charges. Mrs Zaghari-Radcliffe's local MP, Labour's Tulip Siddiq, has been campaigning for her release and admits to feeling "very emotional" when she heard the news. She outlines the events over the last few days, and discusses the part played by the debt, that has reported to have been settled.
