Protests and anger over the deepening economic crisis in the capital, Colombo, has led to the resignation on Sunday of the entire cabinet - apart from the prime minister, who is the brother of Sri Lanka's president. Paikiasothy Saravanumuttu, executive director of the Centre for Policy Alternatives, is closely following the situation and says despite the power sharing offer made by the president in order to quell the protests, it is unlikely that opposition parties will agree. The message from the streets is that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his administration must go. The government is lacking legitimacy and credibility at this point.
