In the 1990s Kwaito music emerged in Soweto, South Africa and took the country by storm. This type of house music featured African sounds and samples and proved very popular amongst Southern Africans but never reached the global success of other African genres like Afrobeats. But now - the genre has experienced a rebirth in the form of Amapiano music. Nyasha Michelle sat down with Lady Du & Boohle - two award winning vocalists -their fans call them - the Queens of Amapiano. They started by telling her what they feel is the secret behind the genre's success.
