Ukraine war: What next for the African students who fled?

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

British-Zimbabwean Korrine Sky is one of the tens of thousands of African students who was forced to flee the fighting in Ukraine. She documented her journey to safety in a series of videos and social media posts. Like many of the accounts from Africans and other minority groups escaping the conflict, she tells of the racism and discrimination she faced at the borders. After eventually making it out of Ukraine, Korrine is now back in the UK and trying to complete her medical studies. But some two months after the ordeal of escaping the war, she says she is still suffering from depression and feels deflated. She has set up the Africans in Ukraine Education Fund (AIUEF) to help other students who, like her, had their education suddenly disrupted and are now trying to rebuild their lives in a different country. She spoke to Focus on Africa's Bola Mosuro about her experience and how her organisation AIUEF is already making a difference. Photo: Korrine Sky
