Would you let your two-year-old walk to the shops alone?

Woman's Hour

Available for over a year

The long running hit Japanese TV show Old Enough! is now available to stream on Netflix. It follows children as young as two while their parents send them off on their first ever errand away from home, unknowingly followed by undercover TV camera operators. In one episode, a two year and 10 month old toddler walks 20 minutes to a grocery store to pick up flowers, curry and fishcakes for his mum. The show has sparked a debate about how much freedom we give our toddlers. Would you let your two-year-old walk to the shops on their own? Dr Elizabeth Kilbey, a Consultant Clinical Child Psychologist who worked on Channel 4’s The Secret Life of Children, and Mariko Oi, the Â鶹Éç’s Asia Business Correspondent, joined Emma Barnett on Â鶹Éç Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss.
