Gabon's FM on joining the Commonwealth

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Gabon and Togo have become the latest countries to be admitted to the Commonwealth group of countries, bringing the total number of member nations to 56. Both countries were given the green light by unanimous vote at the Commonwealth heads of government summit that was held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali. Neither country has any any historic ties to Britain, which heads the international body. So what will Gabon - a former French colony - gain by becoming a member of the Commonwealth? Gabonese Foreign Minister Michael Moussa Adamo told Focus on Africa's Bola Mosuro there is a lot to gain and a lot to learn as Gabon extends its world view.
