A recent survey by the charity Pregnant Then Screwed showed 60% of the women they spoke to who had had an abortion in the last 5 years made that difficult decision because of childcare costs. Childcare costs have increased 60% in cash terms between 2010 and 2021, twice as fast as average earnings, according to the latest survey by Coram Family and Childcare, a charity that promotes children’s rights. They also say a full-time nursery place for an under-two in London is now £19,000 a year Pregnant Then Screwed founder, Joeli Brearley, joined Anita Rani on Âé¶¹Éç Radio 4's Woman’s Hour to discuss the impact this rising cost of childcare is having on women.
