Filbert Bayi - 'Nobody expected I would win the medal'

Not by the Playbook

Available for over a year

We hear from Tanzanian running legend Filbert Bayi following the release of his autobiography "Catch Me If You Can: Revolutionizing My Sport, Breaking World Records and Creating a Legacy for Tanzania". Filbert famously won gold in the 1974 Games in Christchurch. His victory in the 1500m saw him break the Commonwealth Games record and that time stands to this very day. He also tells us a little of his remarkable life on and off the track Image: Filbert Bayi #813 of Tanzania beats John Walker of New Zealand and Ben Jipcho of Kenya to win the 1500 metres in a new World Record at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand.
