Ivorian ex-first lady to seek 'frank' reconciliation

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

The former first lady of the Ivory Coast, Simone Gbagbo, has said her newly launched political party will focus on economic development and changing people鈥檚 lives. Along with her husband, Laurent Gbagbo, she faced accusations of crimes against humanity committed during the country鈥檚 2010-2011 post-election crisis following Mr Gbabgo鈥檚 refusal to step down from power. She was jailed for seven years in Ivory Coast before being granted amnesty in 2018. Speaking to the 麻豆社's Valerie Bony, Simone Gbagbo says it is necessary to address issues of reconciliation in a 鈥渇rank manner鈥 to allow people to heal, forgive and continue living together in peace.
