What is the Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda?

Newsday

Available for over a year

The Nyege Nyege Festival is currently taking place in Uganda. The event includes social activities and music, with hundreds of people including musicians and performers attending from all over the world. The much anticipated music festival is underway at the Itanda Falls, east of Kampala. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the three day festival. The event is going ahead despite opposition from members of parliament who have criticised the event for promoting immorality. Bernard Ewalu Olupot has regularly attended the festival since it's launch, and he joined Newsday to talk about why it is so significant to him and many others, saying, "It's a very good melting pot for lovers of music, and art, and expression, from all around the world, and obviously as a Ugandan, I love the fact that this is the one time when Ugandans and the rest of the world get together in Uganda".
