The works of Ugandan artist Stacey Gillian Abe are more than just paintings on the wall. Through her art, she explores her family history, cultural roots, resilience, and how black bodies are viewed. Her debut solo exhibition, has just opened in London. Entitled Shrub-let of Old Ayivu, it is a series of portraits of the women of her clan, all of whom have been painted in the colour indigo. Speaking to Focus on Africa, Stacey says it was important to bring black bodies to the forefront and to represent them as "assertive".
