How damaging is Netflix's Harry and Meghan series to the Royal Family?

Newsday

Available for over a year

After a blaze of publicity and controversy, Netflix's Harry & Meghan series is beginning on Thursday with three episodes. It promises to reveal the inside story of how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from royal duties. Trailers refer to a "war against Meghan", with Prince Harry speaking of the "leaking and... planting of stories" as part of a "dirty game". Buckingham Palace has not responded to the Sussexes' claims. There will be intense scrutiny of the series. A "behind-closed-doors" view of Palace life has been promised, with Prince Harry speaking of the "pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution", in an apparent reference to his wife, Meghan, and mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Newsday have been speaking to Anna Pasternak - a royal biographer who has written a number of books including The American Duchess, the Real Wallis Simpson and Princess in Love. 鈥淭his is yet another attempt to smash with a sledgehammer, the foundations of the House of Windsor. I cannot see anything positive coming out of this in terms of the institution of the monarchy .鈥 Photo shows: Undated handout photo issued by Netflix of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released for a new documentary called "Harry and Meghan" - the Sussexes' behind the scenes.
