Ukraine war: Authorities restoring electricity to over 1.5 million people after strikes
NewsdayAvailable for over a year
Russia continues to target Ukraine's energy grids. More than 1.5 million people in the southern region of Odesa have been left without electricity. Authorities in the country say power is gradually returning, but water supplies have also been affected. Hanna Shelest is a director of Foreign Policy Council Ukrainian Prism, and editor at Ukraine Analytica. She lives in Lviv, but recently travelled to her hometown in Odesa. She told Newsday: "People tried to prepare as much as possible, the question is how quickly and how efficiently it will be restored and maintained by the local authorities. That will make some people definitely consider leaving for other regions if the restoration will not happen quickly".
