Malaysia landslide leaves campers dead and dozens missing

Newsday

Available for over a year

A landslide that engulfed a campsite close to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, is now known to have killed at least 13 people. About 20 others are still unaccounted for. Mud, rocks and trees swept down a hillside at the site on a farm in Selangor state in the early hours of the morning as people slept in their tents. The immediate cause is unclear. Zan Azlee is a journalist in Kuala Lumpur. He told Newsday: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a hilly and green area鈥here are a lot of trees, a lot of foliage so it might be a little bit tough for the rescue personnel to actually go through.鈥 (Picture: Shows rescuers following a landslide at a campsite in Batang Kali, Selangor state, on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 16th, 2022.
