Newsday

Available for over a year

In a spectacular final in Qatar, Argentina have won the World Cup for the third time, beating the previous champions, France, on penalties. Argentina's Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup trophy as captain and was named player of the tournament. However, France's star striker, Kylian Mbappe, won the Golden Boot for top scorer with eight goals throughout the games, one ahead of Messi. Segun Jegede is a football fan who was at the final match. He told Newsday: “Those two players, they gave their all. Messi rolled back the years as if he were a 20-year-old boy…out of this world, simply magical. (Picture: Shows Argentina’s Lionel Messi kissing the World Cup trophy after receiving the Golden Ball award having won the World Cup final against France at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on December 18th 2022.
