Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

There have been many accounts of the risks and failures of cryptocurrencies, most recently highlighted by the collapse of the crypto firm FTX and the arrest of its founder. But Nigerian tech entrepreneur and web programmer believes digital currency can have an important role in Africa. It is a topic she wanted to explore in her role as guest editor of Focus on Africa. She spoke to Paul Bakibinga about why, despite the pitfalls, cryptocurrencies have the potential to enable financial freedom and can be a useful activism tool. Photo: Ire Aderinokun.
