A Philippine court has acquitted journalist Maria Ressa and news outlet Rappler of tax evasion, in a move hailed as a win for press freedom. Maria Ressa, editor of the news website Rappler said the charges against her and her news outlet, had been an abuse of power, politically motivated, and designed to stop journalists from doing their jobs. Ms Ressa has faced a string of criminal charges and investigations and this is not the end of her and Rappler's legal woes, as they still face three active court cases. Anna Malindog-Uy, a columnist for the Asian Post says the rule of law is working in the Philippines and more time is needed under a new president and administration to see if the country is getting better.
