Scientists have discovered a brand new colony of emperor penguins in Antarctica, and it's all thanks to their poo, which were spotted from space. The colony at Verleger Point, West Antarctica has been announced to mark Penguin Awareness Day, and is home to around 500 birds. Scientists at the British Antarctic Survey say this brings the total of known emperor penguin sites around the continent to 66. The discovery of the new colony is a rare piece of good needs for the emperor penguin. It's estimated that 80% of them will be gone by the end of century because of climate change. Newshour's Tim Franks has been speaking to Peter Fretwell, a cartographer and scientist with the British Antarctic Survey. (Photo: Emperor penguins in the Antarctic. Credit: BAS/PA)
