Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Road accidents in Africa are some of the deadliest in the world according to the World Health Organization. The impact on the lives of family members bereaved as a result of losing loved ones to avoidable road accidents, can be devastating. Mariama Jallow's husband Pa Modou Faal was killed in a car accident in a rural part of The Gambia in January 2022, at the age of 49. He was the sole bread winner of his immediate and extended family. He left behind his wife and five children, the youngest of whom was one when he died. Mariama Jallow spoke to Focus on Africa's Esau Williams about the toll the loss has taken on her family.
