Kenya’s government has officially recognized the Pemba community as an official ethnic group. The recognition will allow community members to be integrated into society and have access to essential services such as education, health care, social protection, financial services, and the formal job market. Without it - they were excluded and often harassed for not being able to prove their Kenyan citizenship. We hear from Barke Mohamed, a member of the Pemba Community on what this recognition means to them.
