An historic summit is taking place in the Ukrainian capital with membership of the European Union taking centre stage. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal says his government has set what he called an "ambitious goal" of joining the EU in two years. But a group of member states have warned it should be made clear to Kyiv that early membership will not be possible. So how realistic is the view from Kyiv? Newsday heard from former Ukrainian Minister of Economy and adviser to the Presidency, Timofiy Milovanov, who thinks it鈥檚 an ethical imperative for the EU to accept Ukraine. 鈥淚t鈥檚 better to start [the process of joining] earlier even it takes longer. We are realistic about the time it takes. There is work to be done鈥 it鈥檚 a complementary effort to winning the war. Access to the EU market will help the economy, will help people, to fight the war.鈥 (Pic: The President of the European Commission, accompanied by 15 Commissioners, travelled to Kyiv for EU-Ukraine summit; Credit: EPA)
