Leicestershire school remembers Polish air crew who lost their lives in 1946

Ben Jackson

Available for over a year

Students and staff at a Leicestershire school have paid tribute to six Polish air crew who lost their lives in 1946. 77 years ago a Lancaster bomber crashed in Wigston during a thunderstorm, killing all six men onboard. The main impact of the crash was on a field near a local school, but debris damaged several houses. Every year, staff and students at All Saints Primary School in Wigston arrange a memorial event on the anniversary of the crash, as well as hosting a memorial tree and seat in the playground. Kevin Ncube went to meet the pupils, staff, and ex-servicemen involved in this year's commemoration.
