Quake: Anger after lack of aid in Turkey and Syria

Newsday

Available for over a year

There鈥檚 distress and anger at the slow response and lack of aid to have reached Syria and Turkey after the countries were hit by a large earthquake on Monday. One mother, in a badly hit area in northern Syria could hear her son鈥檚 voice for the first 24 hours but no one came to save him. The woman told Syrian journalist, Ibrahim Zeidan, that 11 people died in front of her eyes. Heavy equipment is now needed to dig the bodies out. Turkish President Erdogan acknowledged that there had been difficulties getting aid to areas, but defended the response, saying it's not possible to prepare for disasters of this magnitude.
