Turkey Syria quake: 'Survivors need help'

Newsday

Available for over a year

Large parts of southern Turkey and northern Syria have been devastated by Monday's earthquakes and millions of people need help. At least 17,000 people have been killed and there are warnings that even more could die as they struggle to survive amongst destroyed cities, struggling for food, shelter and other basic supplies. The home of Rawan Kahwaji, a resident of the Turkish city of Gaziantep, was destroyed but she survived and has fled to Ankara where she told Newsday that Gaziantep is still dangerous with aftershocks still happening. She said people there are living in tents and sports halls if they can find them as there is no equipped shelters, and the weather is freezing, there's a lack of basic supplies like food, fuel and water.
