The biggest game in the NFL American football calendar comes on Sunday -- with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles going head to head in Super Bowl LVII. The Super Bowl is the annual final playoff game of the National Football League to determine the league champion. Regardless of the result on Sunday, history will be made because it's the first Super Bowl ever to feature two black quarterbacks - in Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles) and Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) – playing in the most important position in the most important game. Doug Williams was the first black quarterback to play in, and win, the Super Bowl back in 1988 with Washington. Black quarterbacks are now a common sight in NFL games, thriving in a position once reserved exclusively for white men. But in the decades since Doug Williams lifted the Lombardi trophy just six more black quarterbacks have made the big game. And the sport's biggest game had never featured two of them - until now. Mike Carlson - an NFL pundit and commentator - told Â鶹Éç Newsday African-Americans dominate the field in terms of numbers so to have two black quarterbacks is long overdue. “Having two black quarterbacks in the final, it should not be – at this point in history – that strange… given that say 70 per cent [of players] are black.â€ (Pic: Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts face each other at Super Bowl 2023; Credit: Getty Images)
