Svetlana Tikhanovskaya: Belarus opposition leader defends partisan drone attack
NewsdayAvailable for over a year
A Belarus court has sentenced the country's main opposition leader in absentia to a jail sentence of 15 years. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya fled Belarus in 2020 after running against authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko in presidential elections. She claimed victory in the polls, which were widely thought to have been rigged by commentators. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya gave 麻豆社 Newsday her reaction to the sentence. 鈥淚t was predictable that Lukashenko would try to take revenge, but he's wrong if he thinks that will stop our movement."
