The eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut has seen some of the war's bloodiest and most vicious battles in Russia's war against Ukraine. Moscow has been trying to take Bakhmut for months, as both sides suffer heavy losses in a grinding war of attrition. Although analysts say Bakhmut has little strategic value, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has committed to stay and fight for the destroyed city. The ferocity of the battle for Bakhmut means it's incredibly difficult and dangerous for journalists to operate there, or even close by. Mexican war photographer, Narciso Contreras, has recently been in Bakhmut – he told the Â鶹Éç about conditions there.
