Cyclone Freddy returns to Mozambique

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Mozambique is bracing itself for the return of Cyclone Freddy. The cyclone, which may be the longest lasting tropical storm, is bearing down on Mozambique for a second time after it wreaked havoc there in late February. Egidio Joao is the national Disaster Risk Reduction co-ordinator for the non-government organisation, World Vision. He is in the seaport city of Quelimane, in Mozambique's Zambezia Province. He says there have been widespread warnings, and local residents have been taking steps to protect themselves from the expected more damaging winds and torrential rain.
