The Communications and Media minister for the Democratic Republic of Congo, has insisted that neighbouring Rwanda is backing the M23 rebels who have been fighting Congolese troops in the east of the country. Patrick Muyaya, told Focus on Africa, that the M23 were able to reform and intensify their attacks because of the will of Rwanda's President Kagame, and a ceasefire brokered by Angola, has not been adhered to. Rwanda has consistently refuted claims that they are involved in the conflict. Mr Muyaya also addressed the question of whether D R Congo was seeking assistance from the Russian paramilitary Wagner Group, saying his country does not need "a militia to fight a militia."
