Newsday

Available for over a year

Tanzania has announced its first outbreak of the deadly Marburg virus disease. Five fatalities and three other cases were reported at a hospital in the country鈥檚 Kagera region. Tanzania's Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu said the disease had been contained and she was confident it would not spread further. But the government has deployed an emergency response team to the area and neighbouring countries have stepped up their surveillance. So how bad is the outbreak - and what should be done to prevent the spread? Dr Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, the WHO Regional Director for Africa, spoke to Newsday from Brazzaville.
