Fashion designer, Sheila Winston-Martin, is on a mission to proclaim and celebrate her Krio heritage through her creations. The Krios are descendants of Caribbean people and freed slaves from the United States who landed in Sierra Leone鈥檚 port city and capital, Freetown, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Their style of dress featured vibrant prints and cotton shirts. The women wore full length skirts with layers of lace, accessorised with unique bags and fans. Sheila Winston-Martin, spoke to Focus on Africa鈥檚 Bola Mosuro about her work and creativity, and her determination to ensure that traditional designs do not die out.
