Residents trapped in their homes in Khartoum

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

There is growing concern for the plight of civilians in Sudan, as rival factions of the armed forces continue their fight for control of the capital Khartoum, and other cities. Artist and human rights activist Duaa is a key member of Khartoum's neighbourhood committees. She told Focus on Africa that residents are frightened and are sheltering in their houses. She says food supplies and water are running low, and there is no electricity. (Photo: Deserted streets in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, as smoke from the clashes rises from several buildings.
