Sudan: Some hospitals have been ‘militarised’ says WHO

Newsday

Available for over a year

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns many hospitals in Sudan are short of critical supplies and some have been militarised as clashes continue. Fighting erupted between army units loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s transitional governing Sovereign Council, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who is deputy head of the council. The WHO’s Sudan Representative, Dr Nima Saeed Abid, is in Khartoum. He told Newsday: “Most hospitals in Sudan do not have the medical supplies they need… some of the hospitals have been evacuated, some shut down, some are being militarised… some patients are still there with a huge risk on their life and care workers. (Picture: Shows a satellite image of a damaged hospital in Khartoum.
