Eid in Sudan: 'We wake up in tears'

Newsday

Available for over a year

As fighting in Khartoum continues, one resident, Mahasin, says everyone is heartbroken. People have not been able to go to prayers on the first day of Eid - the last day of Ramadan. Several people she knows have been shot dead including a colleague who was with her whole family trying to flee the city in a car and a young boy being taken to school to pick up a brother. With no water for seven days and limited food as the shops nearby are closed after looting, her family are relying on the kindness of strangers who are better off.
