Newsday

Available for over a year

A ceasefire in Sudan appears to be holding, although there have been reports of new gunfire and shelling. It is the fourth attempt to stop the fighting, which began on April 15th. As it holds, thousands of people are continuing to flee. Among them, Dallia Abdelmoniem. She is a Sudanese political commentator who has been keeping a diary. She told Newsday: “We’ve seen foreign nationals…be evacuated. Saved, you could even say by their governments but ours are fighting each other so we only have ourselves to get out…It’s proving to be a huge, huge challenge. (Picture: Shows people waiting with their belongings along a road in the southern part of Khartoum for transport to lead them to safety.
