The Indian hitchhiking his way out of Khartoum

Newsday

Available for over a year

Among the many thousands fleeing Sudan is Maheen, from Kerala in India. He was hitchhiking around Africa and was in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, when a rivalry between Sudan's top two generals erupted into conflict, pitting the Sudanese army against the Rapid Support Forces. He was close to the border with Ethiopia when he spoke to Newsday. He said: 鈥淪udanese people鈥re kind people. They are hospitable people鈥here鈥檚 people on the road to give juice鈥ater to the fleeing people鈥ven for me. I was short on cash and all the people were taking me in trucks or bus鈥or free.鈥 (Picture: Shows Maheen travelling out of Khartoum on the back of a truck. Credit: Hitchhiking Nomad.)
