Palestinians mark 75th anniversary of Nakba

Newshour

Available for over a year

On 14 May 1948, Israel declared independence, and in a war which began the next day, between Arab states and Israel, up to 750,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled from their homes. Palestinians have remembered it ever since as the Nakba or catastrophe - and this year on the 75th anniversary, it has been officially marked at UN Headquarters in New York for the first time. One man who still remembers the violence of 75 years ago is, Palestinian, Hasan Hammami. He spoke to Newshour's Rebecca Kesby. (Photo: Hasan Hammami. Credit: Hasan Hammami)
